The Elements Website Security & Migration Case Study

Restoring a Luxury Waterfront Website and Its Search Presence

The Elements is a limited collection of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom waterfront condo villas in Maya Beach, Belize. When its WordPress website was hit by a search-spam hack, we cleaned and secured the installation, cleared the spam from Google Search and then moved the site onto its own dedicated server.

The Challenge

The Elements recovery involved several critical challenges, including:

Spam Hidden From Visitors

The site looked normal to buyers, while Google was being served thousands of spam pages under the domain, putting its search presence at risk.

Backdoors Across The Install

Malicious files, fake plugins and unauthorized administrator accounts had been planted throughout the installation, so a surface clean-up would not hold.

No Clean Backup To Restore

The site shared its hosting with other installs, and the most recent backups already contained the hack, so recovery had to start from the live site itself.

THE SOLUTION

Our team restored a clean, secure website by addressing these challenges through:

Complete Clean-Up And Hardening

We quarantined every malicious file, reinstalled WordPress core from a verified copy, removed the unauthorized accounts, rotated every password and key, and set up a firewall, login limits and two-factor sign-in.

Google Search Recovery

We submitted a clean sitemap, requested removal of the indexed spam URLs and confirmed Search Console showed no security issues or manual actions.

A Clean Move To Its Own Server

We migrated the cleaned live site, never an old backup, onto its own server and updated email authentication for the new address.
